There's a club almost within walking distance that's been there for, I don't know, 80 years? Bit of a hole in the wall. Checked it out once. Maybe one day I'll go back.
Makes me think of the line from Bill Joel's piano man. "They're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone." Not to be overly melancholy. 😀
There's a club in South Beach Florida called 'Deuces', it's the place Miami Vice did their bar shots. Been there with my brother (he goes there in the winter). It's like a community. Everyone knows each other, people form friendships, hang out, do stuff. It goes beyond the bar. Kinda like places like that.
FL is an interesting phenomena. They've had so many expats from NY for so long, that now even those born there sound like they're from the Bronx. Culture is ever interesting, as long as it doesn't harm.
We started to have a neighborhood bar when we were in Philly. They opened in 2016 and while they managed to reopen after COVID, it wasn't until 2022. We haven't found anything like that here yet. Although there's a newish sports bar not that far away that we've been meaning to check out.
Not to mention sober up, you "rummy". 😉 Here in the South, the concept of a neighborhood bar is as foreign to them as hunting sober.
